Chan Chun Keong (CK), aged 59, holds a Bachelor of Economics (Accounting) degree and a Diploma in Accounting from the University of Malaya. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Cranfield University, UK. He is a member of the Malaysian Instutue of Accountants.
Upon graduation in 1974, he worked for the Accounting Firm of KK San & Liew, prior to joining the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA). During his stay in MIDA, he worked in various positions, as a Financial Analyst, Projects Officer and later on as Assistant Director. He has wide exposure to the industrial sector, covering industries such as cement, ceramics, timber, non-metallic mineral products, glass products, automotive products, etc.
He was involved in Malaysia’s inaugural Industrial Master Plan (IMP 1), as a team member together with experts from South Korea, EPU & MITI. He was instrumental in initiating the founding of the Heavy Industries Corporation of Malaysia (HICOM) in 1981, being its Company Secretary.
In 1984, he joined main-board listed building materials manufacturer, CI Holdings Bhd as its Corporate Planning Manager. Subsequently, he was promoted as General Manager of one of its manufacturing subsidiaries wherein he executed a turn-around within 3 years. He was later promoted to General Manager-Corporate cum Group Company Secretary.
Upon the take-over of CI Holdings Bhd. in 1995 by Hume Industries Bhd., a member of the Hong Leong Malaysia Group, CK, as the General Manager for Trade & Business Development, was given the primary responsibility of overseeing the business development of its overseas operations in ASEAN. He initiated operations in Myanmar, Vietnam & Philippines.
When the Asian financial crisis struck in 1998, the Hong Leong Group disposed of its controlling stake in CI Holdings Bhd. CK was put in charge of one of the active subsidiaries, in his capacity as Chief Operating Officer.
In 2005, CK joined another Listed Company, APP Industries Bhd. as its full-time Executive Director. The Company specializes in the manufacture and marketing of ceramic gardenware for the export markets. He was instrumental in revamping the Group’s Strategic Plan. He retired from the Group in 2007.
CK has been trained as a 7-Habits Facilitator and a Lead Assessor for Staff Performance Evaluation & Promotion, Power of Alignment using Structure Tree method, Kepner-Tregoe Problem-Solving & Decision-Making. He recently became an accredited Vistage Chair based on his all-round experience in the public & private sectors, including his overall exposure ranging from corporate to operations management.
