J.A. Lew has been a Vistage Chair/CEO Coach since July 2011 for a group of CEOs and business owners. During this short period, he has received the Vistage Malaysia Chair Excellence Award for 2 consecutive years 2012 and 2013.
He is passionate in his role in coaching CEOs to become more effective in their businesses and to enhance their personal lives. A believer that CEOs need to work on transforming and continually improving their companies to become more competitive and successful, he emphasizes the importance of organizational alignment and good execution to reap the fruits of sound business strategy. He strongly advocates lean management and six sigma approaches to maximize business results and encourages CEOs to invest in training and developing people to provide a pipeline of talent to support their organizational plans.
Over a 30-year career in the semiconductor industry, he held positions of increasing managerial responsibility in engineering, quality management, operations and general management. He served as Managing Director of a U.S. semiconductor subsidiary in Malaysia from 1997 to 2003, where he steered the company to become the U.S. multinational’s largest and most advanced semiconductor packaging and testing subsidiary. Later from 2003 to 2007, as Managing Director of an outsourced semiconductor packaging and testing company, he was instrumental in transforming it to become a competitive, profitable and preferred microchip packaging and test service provider.
He also serves as Chairman of Selangor Human Resources Development Centre, a not-for-profit centre dedicated to supporting training and development needs of industry in Selangor and the central region. He also serves as an independent non-executive director on the Board of a public-listed company.
He received his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Honours degree from Universiti Malaya and an Executive MBA with Distinction from University of Bath, UK.
