B.L. Lau, has wide experiences in semiconductor product engineering, final test technology transfer, integrated circuits (I.C.) design company start-up, manufacturing out-sourcing, international business development and Android apps creation.
He joined Motorola semiconductor division in 1987 where he played important roles in the final testing, product engineering and transfer of high speed static memories products from Austin, Texas to Sungai Way plant. The product transfers helped increase the revenue of the division by 10 folds in less than 5 years.
Later, he was recruited to the Asia Final Manufacturing group to coordinate final test standardization and synergy for Motorola factories in Tianjin, Hong Kong, Sendai, Taiwan and Sungai Way.
In 2000, he joined one of first few semiconductor integrated circuits (I.C.) design start-up company in Malaysia as Director of Engineering. Later, as Chief Operating Officer, he steered the company to focus on security related memory products and smartcard chips. From ground up, he built a team of I.C. designers and product engineers to develop more intellectual properties and deliver the products.
Together with a group of capable sales and marketing personals from different countries, B.L. and his team penetrated and exported their products to Belgium, France, Italy, Thailand, Philippines and India. The company revenue crossed RM10 million in less than 2 years. He was later appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer.
B.L. took early retirement in 2010 to pursue other aspects of life; he explored green rooftop, equity investment and Android app developments. He learned the object oriented programming language from scratch, built the first Android app and published to Google Play Store in 15 months. One of his hobby apps generated revenue and a one year later, the revenue doubled.
He joined Vistage to share his knowledge, especially IT or electronics related technical know- hows and business managements with small and medium businesses. He was formerly a Vistage member in Richard Wong’s VCE-16 group for 5 years. He graduated from UTM as First Class (Hons) in Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Electronics.
