Ong Guan Hock – VistageOng Guan Hock graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester (1986) and an MBA from the University of Bradford, both UK. He offers a unique mix of public sector, family business (10 years) and public listed (10 years) company management experience, plus first-hand expertise in Business Administration, gained over 30 years.

During his fledgling years, he worked in London as an Audit Semi-Senior and Software Consultant before moving back closer to home. From 1991 to 1994, he joined the highly influential Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) responsible for strategic advisory and business development services for 100+ Small Medium Enterprises (SME). Weekly, he would typically meet new CEOs/Business owners to understand their growing business pains and then jointly developed blueprints on how the government could collaborate with them.

Over the next 20+ years, Guan Hock gained an unusual combination of family enterprise and public listed company experience, initially at functional level before advancing into Senior Management with Strategic, Business Planning and full P&L accountability.

In 1995, he joined the family business (then already 25-30 years established), working with his parents and siblings. He was instrumental in setting up key management systems (Finance, Human Capital, IT, Quality & Operations), revamping and upgrading the operations to seize opportunities they faced as growing SMEs. He adopted, learned and then coached various Continuous Improvement methodologies to change the culture and gain widespread Buy-In so that, critically, initial improvements (typically 30-70%) can be sustained over time. He is a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) with multiple certifications.

In 2005, Guan Hock made a bold decision to venture out of the family business and into the corporate world, seeking new challenges. He joined Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd and took charge of revitalizing a 20+ year old subsidiary by creating and successfully executing a 5-year business plan which included the introduction of new products, strengthening human capital and enhancing internal business processes, resulting in 4X revenue increase. In 2014, he joined MBM Resources Bhd as the Group GM-Corporate Development assisting the Managing Director with strategic business opportunities & issues, evaluating feasibility of new projects and undertook a special assignment as the Deputy MD of a subsidiary. In 2017, he moved on to freelancing as a management consultant eventually setting up his own consulting company.
