Tom Chong – Vistage Chair Profile

tom chongSince retirement as a partner of Ernst & Young Asia Pacific in 2011, after 35 years (of which 21 years as a partner, initially with Ernst & Young Malaysia for 31 years and the last 4 years with Ernst & Young Vietnam), Tom has been running his own management and ERP consulting practice.

Throughout his professional life with Ernst & Young, Tom has undertaken diverse assignments relating to corporate restructuring, due diligence, share valuation, and auditing for clients involved in a wide spectrum of industries ranging from plantation, timber-based, manufacturing, services, shipping, hotel, property development, construction to port operations. Tom has successfully guided quite a number of clients towards listing on Bursa Malaysia. His involvement in this regard included review and enhancement of strategic and business plans, re-organizing corporate and operational structures, and enhancing corporate governance and financial closing processes. Whilst he was in Ernst & Young Vietnam, he was the head of Auditing and Advisory Services Division and undertook a number of Asia Development Bank sponsored assignments on financial and operation restructuring of State-Owned Enterprises in Vietnam and Laos.

Tom’s passion to see through implementation of leadership, planning and management enhancement initiatives related ideas motivated him to pursue a career in business and executive performance coaching immediately after his retirement. Currently, his management advisory and ERP consulting practice sees him getting involved in facilitating strategic planning, business model review, organizational restructuring, development of departmental strategic action and KPI setting.

Besides being an Independent Director of a company listed in Hong Kong, Tom is also a Leadership and Business Coach, coaching CEOs and their key executives to develop their leadership and business skills as well as to help them acquire the right mind and skill sets that enable them to grow and add value to their businesses.
