Darren Hoong

Fresh out of school and armed with a can-do spirit, Darren articled himself in Ernst & Whinney (EW) where he quickly proved his leadership by taking lead of others who are more senior and more qualified than himself. Soon duty calls and he left EW to join his family panel fabrication business. With no prior experience in the construction industry, he has to learn the industry and learn fast. This brief sojourn running a business gave him a glimpse into the exciting world of entrepreneurship. Currently he is running a company advisory and secretarial firm.

During his stint with Ernst & Whinney, he has the opportunity to be involved in audits of various industries, investigations and other corporate exercises. These learnings and experiences proved invaluable when he joined his family aluminum business. Ever eager to learn, he left his family business to explore other opportunities, which led him to manufacturing, financial services, shared services, construction and property development.

He held various position in a leading property development company as well as its subsidiaries. He was the internal auditor, finance manager and business development manager. As the business development manager, he was involved in tactical planning, project evaluation and execution on various land deals and development plans for the group. Later he joined Shell Shared Services Center KL which exposes him to the concept of continuous improvement. There he learnt about methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen. He was involved in several global initiatives for cost cutting and streamlining of Shell processes. He is a Green Belt awarded by Shell Process Leadership.

Darren holds a professional degree and an MBA from Charles Sturt University. He is always keen to learn new skills, explore new ideas and believes everyone, no matter how insignificant, can always teach him a thing or two..
