David Wong, is a self-made professional, starting as an office peon and retiring as the Asian CEO for an American Multinational. As he had come from a poor family background, he had to start working at the age of 17 immediately after his secondary education.
With a burning desire to get his family out of poverty, he was very determined to excel both at work in the day and in his part-time study in the evening. As a result, he rose the ranks very quickly in all the Companies he had worked with.
His career life spanned almost 48 years, out of which 34 were spent in helming major operations of both local conglomerates and multinationals. Some of the major Companies he had worked with include Monsanto as Accountant, Tan Chong Group as Director/General Manager of its Assembly Plant, CMB-CarnaudMetalbox Group, a French/UK-based can manufacturer as its Managing Director for Malaysia, Hume Board Division under the Hong Leong Group as its Group Managing Director and the Pacifica Group of Australia/Delta Group in the UK as its Asian Regional Director.
He retired in 2018 as the Managing Director for Asia of Valmont Industries Inc., a NYSE-listed industrial group in Omaha, USA and the world’s largest maker of Poles (utilities and telecommunication) as well as irrigation systems. While at Valmont, he led his team to win the Chairman’s award for outstanding worldwide overall performance in 2014.
In summary, David’s experience is extensive both in breadth and in depth as he had virtually worked through all levels of the management hierarchy and has helmed several local and international companies from diverse industries. He is savy with Finance and his forte is in business turnaround and business transformation for growth.
David is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK (Fellow), Malaysian Institute of Accountants (Chartered) and Charted Global Management Accountants, USA.
