Mr. Oei Kok Eong (KE) graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Singapore in 1977.
He started his career in Jardine Parrish, Singapore as a project and maintenance engineer and then worked in Rothmans, PJ in manufacturing. Since then he has spent 30+ years in the automotive component industry, initially as Operations Manager of a greenfield company, Kayaba (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture between an international Japanese PLC & UMW Berhad, and rose to the position of General Manager/Director responsible for RM240M turnover. KE then helmed the Autoliv group of companies in Malaysia – a division of then Hirotako Berhad – manufacturing seat belts, steering wheels & SRS.
In 2006, he was appointed Executive Director of APM Holdings Berhad, responsible for overseas operations until his retirement in 2011.
KE has served over the years, in various positions in the Malaysian Automotive Component Manufacturers’ Association (MACPMA) & working/technical committees of SIRIM. He also initiated and headed the Toyota Suppliers’ Club’s Lean system activities for several years. KE was the founding Chair of the Malaysian Chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in 2000.
In 2011, he mentored APM Shock Absorbers Sdn Bhd to win the #1 Lean Model Company from more than 100 companies under the SME Corporation Lean Project. He was until recently a member of the General Technical Committee of Lloyds Register. He was also an Associate with the Malaysia Automotive Institute helping local component manufacturers towards excellence through Lean activities and the Automotive Suppliers Excellence Programme (ASEP).
Presently, KE is a coach mentoring a group of business owners/CEOs in association with Vistage Malaysia Sdn Bhd and he sits as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of 3 companies listed on the main board of the KLSE. KE is married to Syrin and has 5 children with 3 grandkids. He worships at the First Baptist Church in Subang, and enjoys taichi, trekking, swimming, reading and movies.
