Tay Bee Seng (Hairy)

Hairy an all-rounder has over 20 years of experience in senior management in the manufacturing of
stationery and precision engineering industries. He has also worked in business development in the
logistics (courier express delivery) and food and beverage (F&B) mass distribution sectors.

Currently, Hairy is a lecturer (facilitating) for MBA classes and providing turnaround consultancy for businesses on a part-time and per project basis respectively.

Before retiring from corporate life in 2020, Hairy was the general manager (CEO) of Broad World Precision (BWP), an engineering company equipped with full machining and hardening manufacturing facilities for precision metal parts, catering to domestic and international, mainly European, markets. As BWP had suffered losses for many years, the whole spectrum of strategic management (Analysis & Evaluation, Options & Intent, and Implementation) was employed to turn around the business. It was transformed as a sustainable platform to meet global challenges.

As Special Projects head of Skynet, Hairy had pioneered the company’s “Walk-in-Centre”, outsourced to external agents and new business start-up. These “Watch-in-Centre” provide parcel drop-off and other courier support services to non-corporate account customers.

At Bee’s Marketing, Hairy as its managing director led the formation of the confectionery mass distribution which took 2 years. It had a fleet of 36 trucks and undertook daily deliveries to over 2,000 mini markets and sundry stores, traditional Chinese medical halls, factories, schools, and airport shops, all in the Klang Valley.

Hairy was the managing director of Staedtler Singapore for 6 years, involved in the trading and export of stationery products. He was also tasked in the strategic and operational relocation of commercial headquarters and manufacturing plant with over 300 employees, to Kuala Lumpur and Pahang respectively.

At Schwan-Stabilo Malaysia, Hairy started as a junior support staff before becoming the export- cum-business development director. He spent 18 years working here and was involved in new product development from drawing board, prototyping, tooling and machinery development to production set-up and market launches – domestic as well as in over 50 other countries.
