Leong Tek Beng
Tek Beng graduated from the University of Malaya as a Chemical Engineer and he also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University, Edingburgh. He began his 14 years career with the Hong Leong Group, starting as a management trainee, and gradually moved up the ranks and assumed the position of General Manager for three manufacturing facilities and a research company within the Hong Leong Group of companies.
In 1993, he was seconded to China to set up a ceramic tile and coal gas plant and subsequently ran the operations there. Despite the lack of skills and poor work ethics among the local workers then, Leong and his team were able to complete the installation of the plant and commissioned the equipment within a schedule of twelve months.
Upon his resignation from the Hong Leong Group, he became a Consultant to Seacera Berhad before it got listed on the Second Board. He was responsible for revamping the manufacturing operations, building and training a skilled and competent workforce and also the development of a new range of products. As a result of his efforts, Seacera Berhad managed to double its sales and established a stronger foothold in the marketplace and this has undoubtedly played a major part in the successful listing of the company.
Tek Beng was subsequently appointed as the Chief Operating Officer in 1998 and under his leadership, he expanded the distribution network and opened new markets in Australia, the Middle East and the Philippines.
