Capt Kenneth Khoo
Capt. KENNETH KHOO LM.I.K, is a Malaysian Master Mariner, who is presently the Co-Founder and Owner of Sealestial Marine Group of Companies, which operates out of Kota Kinabalu, Miri and Melaka. He is also the Head of Seamaster Simulator Centre, located in KK, which is equipped with state of the art Marine Simulators for the maritime and oil & gas industry.
Due to his passion for developing local talent, he has been involved in the training and certification of over 8000 local and foreign seafarers, shipping executives, oil & gas related professionals and port related employees. With over 20 years of experience in coaching, training and educating young as well as adult trainees and participants, aided by his knowledge and experience onboard ocean going ships as an ex-Captain, he has always been dedicated towards excellence in every single activity which he is involved in. This was proven by him owning the youngest approved maritime training institute in the country but yet winning the award for “Best Performer – Maritime Training Institute” at the Malaysia World Maritime Week in 2018.
His strong and grounded business acumen made Sealestial Marine one of the most profitable maritime training institutes in the country, post pandemic, which was aided by his institute being one of the 1st in the world to conduct fully online Cloud Simulation related maritime training approved by the Government and accepted internationally. Post pandemic and from 2023 onwards, plans are in motion to take his business regionally and cover the areas of BIMP-EAGA.
Because of his commitment to the highest standards of competence, professionalism and ethics, he was elected as the President of The Malaysian Maritime Education & Training Association (MyMET) in 2018 and served for 2 terms until 2022, after which he stepped down in order to fully concentrate on his business and other personal development aspects of his life.
In between his time managing Sealestial Marine, he actively involves himself in initiatives to develop the capacity building and human resources aspect of the maritime industry, particularly in East Malaysia. He is part of various committees formed for looking into local seafarers’ training requirement, career development and continuous professional development (CPD). He has also done study papers for the Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) and been invited to be the speaker at various national and regional maritime related events.
More recently, via Sealestial Marine, he became the founding member of the AVIATION, MARITIME and OIL & GAS EduHub @ Aeropod, KK (A.M.O.G [email protected]), an inter-disciplined education and skills training hub for the BIMP-EAGA region.
Originally from Melaka, he currently resides in Kota Kinabalu and commutes on a regular basis between East and West Malaysia in undertaking the Group’s extensive range of services to the industry in the region.
